First I would like to explain that I love dessert trays. I wish I had more places to show them off. Recently over the holidays in one of my favorite magazines I saw an antique wood 3-tier dessert tray and DROOOOOOOLED. So here are a couple inspirational pictures and then a tutorial on how to save money and make your own.
This is a long post and I apologize but well worth the read. I promise.
Heres a list of goods:
1. 3 terra cotta trays in descending sizes such as 5", 8", and 12".
2. 3 furniture legs in descending sizes.
3. Hot glue gun.
4. leftover paint colors from other projects around the house.
5a. Remove the metal ends with a man tool (I had Mr. Fix It take care of this step).
5b. Glue smallest furniture leg to the top of smallest tray
6. Glue medium furniture leg to the bottom of the smallest tray. This makes 1st section.
7. Glue the 1st section to the top of medium tray. This is now 1st section.
8. Glue largest furniture leg to the top of largest tray. This is 2nd section.
9. Now glue bottom of section 1 to the top of section 2.
10. Paint as desired.
11. Food Safe Seal.
12. Don't know my final tally, but is about $20 to make them.
13. make it costs less by shopping when HD/Lowe's are having sales on their pots.
Here are my pictures as I went along.
I actually had some finials from a old 4 poster bed that I gave away and I decided to use them as my top.
TAAADAAAH
I painted ours to look like old, blue stone. I love them and the next time you see them they will be covered in sweet treats and roses alike. I hope this tutorial was helpful.

Oh Brandy, you are so clever! This turned out wonderfully!
Brandy,
What a great idea to use those terracotta planter bases for this project! I love how it turned out. Very old world. Feels like an old fountain in Italy. Though instead of water this one will be spilling over with sweets ...
:)

Never would have guessed that dessert tray came from planter bases! It is beautiful. I love the RH knockoff planter, too. Might be trying to talk hubs into giving me a bit of help with making one, too. I see why you're the newbie of the week. You guessed,I bet, I came from Simply Klassic Home.
Thanks Janet. The planter was pretty easy. I think when I get time we are going to do a tutorial on it.
