Mirror Transformation.

Recently I posted about my love of  mirrors here. I love showing inspirational post. For me they are just that......GREAT INSPIRATION. So many times I find myself gazing at beautiful pictures in my favorite magazines Country Living and BHG. I get to thinking how I wish I could just snap my fingers and have those gorgeous rooms appear before my eyes. It's the same with catalogs, blogs, and internet flash sites. Unfortunately I know that won't be happening any time soon. What I can do is get to work with my partner and try our hardest to recreate some of our favorite items.

This week it's all about mirrors. I'm going to walk you through the steps of taking an every day inexpensive mirror from PLAIN to hello JANE.

I've had my mirror for about 2 years now and I purchased it at Homegoods for $59. Originally it was to cover an 3x5 ac vent in an apartment. Here's a picture of the mirror that got my wheels a turning.

I love these mirrors and their simple, country charm.

Here is the mirror we had to work with.

List of supplies needed :   Warning Long Post.....Sorry
1. Mirror (I would use one with a mirror inset into a frame. That way your moldings will be inset also).
2a. One 2x4 quarter inch piece of wood.
2b. Large piece of cardboard or sheet of newspaper.
3. Two 6 ft pieces of Trim moulding. ***Please make sure when you are buying your trim pieces you have measured your mirror to make certain you have the correct trim amount.
4. Blue painters tape.
5. Mirror glue (This is absolutely important. Non-Mirror glue will ruin your mirror over time).
6. Zinsser primer and paint brushes.
7. Paint colors of your choice. I used chalk paint b/c it's at the front of my paint pile.
8. In my case handy husband b/c I can't (don't wanna) measure.
Step 1. Begin by measuring and cutting your cardboard to fit into the recess of your mirror.
Step 2. Make sure that your cardboard frame fits into mirror.
Step 3. Measure the center and mark how high you want your arch. Then measure how far you want that arch to come down on the sides.
Step 4. Cut your arch out of the cardboard frame.

Step 5.  Take your cardboard template and cut directly down the middle so that you only have one side. Now that you have a template, place on your 2x4 quarter inch sheet of wood. Match to the left corner and trace. Then flip over your template match to the right corner. This insures that your arch is the same on both sides.

Step 6. After tracing your template onto your wood sheet you can now jigsaw cut your template out of the wood sheet.
Step 7. Now you have to take your mirror glue and adhere your wood cut out to your mirror. Make sure that you do not put glue to close to the edges. Next cut your trim to fit in between your two pieces of wood.

Step 8. Your in your final stages with the trim. Next your going to take trim to make your window panes. Your gonna want to measure the mirror to space your panes out correctly. After cutting the trim, set aside until you are  ready to paint them. Don't attach yet or you will have to tape off each panel to paint the trim.

Step 9. Tape your mirror off to get ready for priming and paint.

Step 10. I used Zinsser primer. It says it will stick to any surface without sanding.
Step 11. Here's the fun part you get to choose any wonderful paint colors that you would like. You can paint your edging and trim in different colors to add a small punch of interest or all one color. I choose two colors.  Coco and Old White ASCP......Imma girl who lives on the edge (so not true).   I painted my trim first. Once dry I added a small amount of wood glue and placed on mirror. I held the trim onto the mirror with a little painters tape. To make sure they didn't slide out of place.

ENJOY!

LOVE IT. This turorial is a little long. Altogether it took me about 3 hours. I don't think that's bad. I hope you find this helpful.

BTW~That sweet chair was last weeks project. I had a matching set with  a matching dining table. So I decided to give it a change. Can't wait to show you the bench I redid of course with  tutorial. Like what you see, please make sure you follow me.

Wow! Nice work with that mirror! I also love mirrors. I recently found a great old mirror at a yard sale for $5! A few coats of Annie Sloan chalk paint and some dark wax and it looks great! There is always room for one more mirror!
