5 Common Flooring Annoyances and What You Can Do About Them

It’s time to give your floors a whole new lease on life! We compiled this list of 5 common flooring annoyances and what you can do about them. Let’s get started.

1. Dirt on your floor

If the grime is collecting in one particular spot, cleaning it out yourself with a vacuum or broom may be the best thing. Cleaning it out yourself will save you hard-earned money as well. That being said, there are some very effective floor cleaners that you can hire out to have your floors cleaned for a reasonable fee. If you’re worried about damage to the floor, then, by all means, get it professionally cleaned.

2. Poorly fitted flooring

Most flooring experts will tell you to stick with the same company that installed your hardwood floors for routine maintenance and cleaning. If you want to add something new, though, get a specialist to do the measuring and installations. Also, be sure to take a few measurements of the space and get flooring samples before committing to anything. Flooring that’s poorly fitted is a waste of money and an eyesore.

3. Dirty grout

Some of you may prefer dirty grout to clean grout. If you’re one of those people, then it can remain dirty. But if you want the floor to look better, start with a brush and hot water to remove the surface dirt. Then use a vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristle brush attachment to clean out the grout lines. Don’t forget to remove the dust from the room before you start.

4. Scratches on your floor

You can cover scratches on your hardwood floors by sanding the affected area with fine sandpaper and then filling the scratches with a mastic sealer designed for hardwood floors. You will want to seal the mark with a covering layer of mastic on top of the sanded area.

5. Black scuff marks on your floor

Get a rag, any old rag, and some olive oil. Moisten the rag and rub olive oil into the scuff mark as you would when waxing a floor. Keep in mind that this is only for light-colored wood floors. Don’t use this on the darker flooring. Once again, you will want to keep rubbing as long as you have some left in your palm. When you think there is no more left, flip the rag over and do the same thing with a clean rag.

Keeping your floors clean is a must to make them last longer

Proper care of your floors will allow them to last you for years. Regular cleaning, proper maintenance, and repairs can keep your floors looking their very best for years to come. If you need special repair work or regluing, then get a professional in to do the work. Don’t be tempted to do it yourself, though. After all, do you know what is contemporary flooring?

If you need help in doing something on your own, then hire an expert. He will have all of the tools necessary to make the work easier and quicker. You don’t want to spend hours and hours on a project that an expert can do in a matter of minutes.
